The Royal Family has maintained its long-standing tradition of bestowing a Royal Warrant upon Wilkin & Sons Ltd, an internationally recognized jam producer based in Essex. This company has received this commendation from every monarch since George V in 1911. Company chairman Walter Scott stated that the firm was “honoured and proud” to have been granted a warrant by King Charles III. He added, “Every member of staff understands the importance of this and we are delighted to continue this tradition.” A Royal Warrant grants a company or organization the right to display the Royal Arms as part of its commercial activities. This distinction is valid for five years at a time. The Wilkin family has been engaged in farming at Tiptree, near Colchester, since 1757 and commenced making preserves in 1885. The company indicated that the award reflects its strong ethical and environmentally sustainable approach. It cultivates various fruit crops, including strawberries, raspberries, mulberries, Morello cherries, rhubarb, damson, Victoria plum, greengage, quince, and the distinctive medlar. In June, Wilkin & Sons disclosed a £1.8 million loss in its latest financial year, attributing it to rising energy bills. However, the brand generated £10 million from exports in 2023, setting a new record for the company.
