King Charles and Queen Camilla have selected a photograph of themselves, taken in the garden of Buckingham Palace, for their official Christmas card. The image, captured in April, portrays the smiling couple standing side-by-side on what appears to be a sunny day. The message inscribed inside reads: “Wishing you a very happy Christmas and New Year”. The King, positioned on the left, is depicted wearing a grey suit and a blue tie, with his right hand tucked into his pocket. The Queen is dressed in a blue wool crepe dress. This photograph represents their third Christmas card since Charles’s ascension to the throne. Photographer Millie Pilkington captured the image as the King resumed his public duties following his cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment. The palace indicated that the card reflects a period when life was beginning to return to normality. This photograph is also considered more informal than the one chosen for Christmas 2023. Last year’s picture, taken by Hugo Burnand, showed the royal couple in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace after the coronation. In that image, the couple stood side-by-side, with King Charles wearing the Imperial State Crown and Queen Camilla adorned with Queen Mary’s Crown. Senior members of the Royal Family regularly release Christmas images to adorn their official festive cards. It will take Charles and Camilla several days to personally sign all the cards. Approximately 2,700 cards will be dispatched to individuals globally, including family, friends, world leaders, and various organizations. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
