The second-to-last stage of a charity challenge by former rugby league player Kevin Sinfield, aimed at raising money for six Motor Neurone Disease (MND) charities, has concluded. Sinfield commenced a 50km (31-mile) run from the MND Association headquarters in Moulton Park, Northampton, with his destination being the Mattioli Woods Welford Road in Leicester, a venue where he previously played during his rugby career. The former England international is undertaking a seven-day challenge, running 50km daily, to honor the memory of his friend and former team-mate Rob Burrow, who passed away from MND in June. Prior to beginning the run, Sinfield stated: “Day six is always the most difficult, but we’ll keep on at it. It will be nice to go back to Welford Road as I’ve still got some good friends there.” During the run, Sinfield wore the black, green, and gold colors of the English champions for the first half of the route, then changed into the green, red, and white of the Leicester Tigers, thereby acknowledging both East Midlands rugby clubs. His path through Northamptonshire included the villages of Brixworth, Naseby, and Sibbertoft. Subsequently, he entered Leicestershire, traversing Fleckney and Wigston, and concluding his run at the Leicester Tigers’ Stadium. Spectators in Brixworth gathered along the streets to support Sinfield, among them Louis and Steve, who had arrived “half an hour early to get a prime position.” Steve, a supporter of the Tigers, commented: “We’re proud of what he’s doing for MND and his association with Leicester Tigers.” Louis further stated: “I have so much admiration for what he’s doing and what he’s going through”.
