A non-league football club is installing additional seating in anticipation of one of the most significant games in its recent past. Kettering Town has verified that 258 supplementary temporary seats will be available at its Latimer Park stadium for the FA Cup second-round fixture against Doncaster Rovers. The Poppies, a team competing in the seventh tier of English football, advanced to the second round proper for the first time since 2009 by defeating their League One rivals, Northampton Town. The uncovered seating, which will not expand Latimer Park’s existing 3000 capacity, is expected to be positioned to the left of the visiting team’s dugout, on the opposite side of the pitch from the clubhouse. Following the surprising triumph against Northampton – a victory that Poppies fan and photographer Peter Short characterized as “the biggest win in Kettering Town’s history” – the club has been actively engaged in preparations for the upcoming round. The club organized three distinct volunteer days, during which supporters contributed to tasks such as painting, maintaining the ground, general tidying, and refurbishing. Kettering Town is scheduled to face League Two Doncaster Rovers in the FA Cup on 1 December. For updates on Northamptonshire news, follow BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X. Copyright 2024 BBC.
