Designated drivers in Kettering, Northamptonshire, are being offered complimentary soft drinks as part of an effort to reduce drink driving. A number of establishments in the town are participating in The Driver Scheme, which will continue until 4 January 2025. This initiative was organized by Kettering Pub Watch, with support from the town council. Councillor Clark Mitchell stated: “This is a great way of being able to thank the designated drivers and give them something back at Christmas.” Posters promoting the scheme have been displayed in the participating venues, including The Peacock, The Stitching Pony, Kino Lounge, The Rising Sun, Aura Bar, and The Sound Bar. Sanjai Tailor, owner of The Sound Bar, remarked: “Myself and other members of Pub Watch decided to collaborate with the council to provide this scheme to promote safety in the town.” He further added: “It doesn’t always have to be about the alcohol to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the night.” Tailor concluded: “It promotes a nice environment to go out in and it saves people money.” Updates on Northamptonshire news are available via BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
