Law enforcement in Kent confiscated a total of 45 knives and other bladed articles over a single week, as part of a program aimed at combating knife-related offenses. To locate these items, Kent Police conducted searches for weapons in parks and other public areas, and also deployed knife arches for detection. Furthermore, officers engaged with students from 35 educational institutions throughout the county and consulted with businesses regarding protocols for confirming a customer’s age during knife purchases. Inspector James Ross stated: “Tackling knife crime in Kent is about so much more than seizing knives and making arrests.” He further remarked: “It’s also about understanding the reasons behind carrying a knife, and how we can influence this – equipping people with the facts and empowering them to make better choices.” Mr. Ross clarified that the police’s objective was to assist individuals who carry knives in recognizing that these weapons do not provide safety.
