Communities throughout Kent are set to observe Remembrance Sunday this weekend, commemorating individuals who lost their lives in conflicts. Ceremonies are anticipated at war memorials county-wide, where attendees will lay wreaths and observe moments of silence to honor the fallen. Additionally, various towns and villages will host their customary annual parades, concluding with services at local churches. Below is a compilation of some of this year’s planned events. Prior to Remembrance Sunday, The New Folkestone Society is scheduled to present a Son et Lumière Remembrance Parade on Saturday evening. This complimentary parade will take place from 18:00 to 20:00 GMT, positioned in front of The Grand, The Leas, Folkestone. On Sunday, a service is planned for the old market square, located outside the entrance to Canterbury Cathedral, commencing at 10:25 with the laying of wreaths at the war memorial. An additional service will occur inside the cathedral at 10:50, followed by a parade featuring local military groups, charities, and community clubs from noon. In Dover, spectators can observe a parade comprising standards, veterans, and community groups as they proceed from Biggin Street to the war memorial situated at Maison Dieu House. The Mayor of Dover will preside over a two-minute silence, wreath laying, and a memorial service, also taking the salute at St Mary’s Church. This year, Folkestone will again host a fundraising concert featuring performances by the Shorncliffe Military Wives Choir, Shepway Brass Academy, Dance Fusion, Royal Marines, and Army and Air Cadets. Concurrently, a Service of Remembrance, Thanksgiving and Dedication is scheduled for 10:45 at the War Memorial in Royal Tunbridge Wells. After the service and the laying of wreaths, a March Past will allow various services and other organizations to render their tributes. For updates, follow BBC Kent on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
