This account includes explicit descriptions of offensive sexual acts. The incident began in October 2022, late at night, when a mobile phone received a call from a withheld number. A male voice was on the line, followed by noises. The caller was unequivocally masturbating during the call, with the sounds intensifying. The recipient, shocked, ended the call, but the phone continued to ring repeatedly. The individual then adopted a journalistic approach, recognizing the necessity of reporting the man and believing the police could trace the call, provided sufficient evidence. Consequently, they retrieved a work phone. During the caller’s third or fourth subsequent attempt, the call was answered, placed on speakerphone, and recorded. For five minutes, the individual recorded and listened as the caller masturbated, uttered their first name, used vulgar language including “suck my [penis],” and made other obscene and lewd remarks concerning their genitalia. Concerns arose regarding personal safety, prompting questions about whether the caller knew them, had met them, was a past interviewee, or knew their residence, given his knowledge of their first name and number. The caller spoke with an unfamiliar accent, possibly from the Midlands. The recipient speculated a connection to their role as an on-air BBC journalist but lacked certainty. The crime was subsequently reported by dialling 999.
