John Herron has departed Ballymena United, an Irish Premiership club, following a brief period. Herron had previously played for Larne and Glentoran within the Irish League. The club officially confirmed the 30-year-old midfielder’s exit from the Showgrounds on Friday. A concise statement from the Sky Blues read: “After a short spell with Ballymena United we bid farewell to John Herron. We thank John for his time with us and he will always be welcomed back at the Showgrounds.” The Braidmen had secured Herron’s services in July with a one-year contract. However, the former Glentoran and Larne player was prevented from participating in matches until significantly later in the campaign due to a 10-match suspension imposed by the Irish Football Association [IFA] for an offense of bringing the game into disrepute. The Scottish footballer was issued the ban subsequent to images circulating on social media, depicting him at a concert wearing a T-shirt featuring a pro-IRA slogan during his time with Larne.
