Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park, operated by television presenter Jimmy Doherty, has defended its traffic management strategies for its Christmas fair after receiving complaints. The event venue, situated near Ipswich, is located approximately a five-minute drive from the A14 dual carriageway. The fair, which took place on Saturday and Sunday, featured various stalls, live music, food options, and complimentary parking. However, drivers indicated that congestion severely impacted traffic flow leading to the entrance, particularly on and near the A137 junction at Wherstead. A spokesperson for the attraction stated, “We understand the frustration in trying to get to the event.” They added, “We will take into consideration all and every aspect of the traffic and local network using our knowledge from this year.” The spokesperson further explained that the event’s scheduling was designed to avoid clashing with an Ipswich Town football match. They also noted that the weekend “proved very popular” and suggested that nearby roadworks and an accident on Sunday might have “compounded” the existing traffic problems. The spokesperson continued by asserting, “The event is strategically and meticulously planned with traffic marshals and stewards deployed throughout the site and a one-way system is in place. Year on year, this system has been successful.” Nicki Jane, a resident of Ipswich, reported that she abandoned her attempt to queue for an hour on Saturday, opting instead to attend the event on Sunday. “It was a bit of a shambles,” she explained, adding, “I think on Saturday it was worse due to a broken down vehicle on the first roundabout, which is why we left the queue and headed elsewhere after over and hour and a half of barely moving.” She observed that traffic was less congested on Sunday and, despite the “madness,” she still considered it a “brilliant, well organised” event. Established in 2002 with the initial goal of preserving the Essex pig breed, Jimmy’s Farm has since grown to house over 100 species and breeds, such as polar bears, capybara, and crocodiles.
