Jim Jordan, a silver medallist representing Northern Ireland at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, has passed away at 88 years old. The Belfast-born boxer achieved his medal in the lightweight 60kg division during the Cardiff Games. In the semi-final, Jordan overcame England’s Johnny Cooke, who would later become a British and Commonwealth champion, thereby guaranteeing himself a silver medal. He subsequently lost the final bout via a split points decision to Dick McTaggart, an Olympic gold medallist and world champion. Throughout his notable boxing career, Jordan also claimed All-Ireland and Ulster titles and competed for Ireland. Subsequently, he assisted his friend, the well-known Belfast trainer Eddie Shaw, in coaching fighters within Barney Eastwood’s stable.
