Jersey residents were invited to partake in a selection of soups, which had been contributed by 40 chefs from local hotels, restaurants, and various organizations, all in an effort to generate funds for charity. The yearly Shelter Trust Soup Kitchen took place on Tuesday at the Royal Square, St Helier. Before the event commenced, organizers expressed their expectation to distribute more than 3,000 cups of soup and 3,000 chunks of bread over a four-hour period. A minimum contribution of £3 was requested, with all proceeds designated for the Shelter Trust, an entity that provides accommodation and support services to Jersey’s homeless community. Richard Robins, a volunteer, stated that this year’s event was anticipated to be the one where a cumulative sum of £250,000 had been amassed since the first soup kitchen in 1998. When discussing the assortment of soups available, Mr Robins commented: “There’s a bit of everything, you’ve got simple soups like celery which has been donated by the Parish of Trinity and then you have something more exotic like parsnip, honey and truffle from Bohemia [Bar & Restaurant].” He further added: “We have a team of about a dozen of us that started in October and we were planning everything but this is the 26th year so we know what we’re doing. “We’ve been doing it for many years but today we’re going to have 90 volunteers, serving soup throughout the day so we’re really grateful for everybody that contributes.”” Post navigation 11-Year-Old Bakes Pies to Support Chef Following Theft Foodbank Emphasizes Food Provision Over Toys During Festive Season
