A stem cell donor from Jersey has urged other residents on the island to sign up for donations. Molly Morin registered six years prior, prompted by a family friend’s blood cancer diagnosis. The 28-year-old received a call in April after a suitable match was identified, subsequently traveling to the UK last month to complete the donation. Ms. Morin publicized her experience on social media, aiming to inspire more island residents to follow suit. She reported feeling at ease due to the medical personnel at the donation facility and stated her willingness to donate again without hesitation. “I didn’t even look when they were putting in the needles,” she said. Ms Morin added: “Someone commented on my post saying they didn’t know you could donate while living in Jersey but all the travel and everything can be arranged and, if you’re needed, then they want you.” Her hospital stay for the donation lasted five hours, during which she mentioned watching the reality television program “Made in Chelsea.” Residents of Jersey are able to register as stem cell donors via the charitable organizations DKMS or Anthony Nolan. DKMS projects that approximately 120,000 individuals in the UK are impacted by blood cancer, with a new diagnosis occurring every 20 minutes. Concurrently, Anthony Nolan states on its official website that 2,300 patients annually begin their quest for a compatible stem cell donor.
