Residents in Jersey have been advised to undertake travel only when essential and to anticipate potential delays and cancellations across road, air, and sea routes. This guidance comes as Storm Darragh is forecast to bring wind gusts of up to 75mph (121km/h) to the island, according to Jersey Met. The government’s emergency planning team stated that winds are predicted to intensify on Friday evening, reaching their peak intensity during Saturday, from mid-morning to late afternoon. The team issued the following statement: “Avoid unnecessary travel and exposed areas, particularly the coast. Do not attempt repairs during the storm. Exercise caution on roads and delay travel if possible.” In an additional statement, it was noted that Liberty Bus services would operate but might experience disruptions. Prior to the storm, islanders were instructed to secure or bring indoors any loose items on their property. The BBC also understands that the Jersey Football League has been suspended for the weekend. To report routes in Jersey blocked by fallen trees, individuals were urged to contact Infrastructure and Environment Operations and Transport at 01534 445509 for main routes, and the duty centenier for parish roads. A red wind warning is active from 03:00 to 11:00 GMT on Saturday, covering the western and southern coastal regions of Wales, as well as the Bristol Channel in England. Yellow wind warnings are in effect for extensive areas of the UK on Friday, with amber warnings covering Northern Ireland, Wales, and the west coast of England on Saturday morning.
