The government of Jersey has confirmed that residents currently using a fossil fuel heating system are now eligible to apply for match funding of up to £9,000 for a heat pump installation. Officials indicated that the grant for heat pumps, which function by absorbing heat from the air, ground, or water to warm buildings, has been raised from £5,000 to £9,000. This increase is intended to encourage islanders to transition to these systems. Additionally, officials stated that individuals who meet low-income criteria could receive an elevated funding amount for heat pumps, up to £15,000, without a match funding requirement. To facilitate this adjustment, the grant value for certain other direct heat technologies is being decreased from £5,000 to £4,000. Environment Minister Deputy Steve Luce commented: “To help encourage more islanders to make the switch to heat pumps, I have increased the grant for these systems. “Although the upfront cost of installing a heat pump can be high, they are very energy efficient, very environmentally-friendly and have low running costs.” Officials also confirmed that islanders who have already submitted a grant application on or after 1 November 2024 will be eligible to receive the incentive at the updated rate.
