Jersey’s fire service has indicated that Christmas trees can become a fire hazard if they are allowed to dry out. Jersey Fire and Rescue advises individuals to keep cut Christmas trees adequately watered to prevent them from becoming parched, and to maintain a safe distance between them and fires or other heat sources. The service also recommended choosing trees with green needles that have not yet begun to dry out. A spokesperson for the fire service stated: “If your tree does catch light, do not try to tackle the fire – get out, stay out and call 999.” The fire service has issued several guidelines pertaining to real Christmas trees: * Select the appropriate tree * Properly care for your tree * Responsibly dispose of your tree Follow BBC Jersey on X and Facebook.
