The annual illumination of Christmas lights in Jersey’s town centre will take place at an alternative venue this year, signaling the commencement of the holiday shopping period. The Christmas Light Switch On event in St Helier, scheduled for Thursday, will feature live performances and a chance to view Santa’s sleigh, commencing at 17:00 GMT, with the parade set to begin at 19:15 GMT. The procession will proceed along the High Street, pass through Charing Cross, and conclude at Parade Gardens, where a Christmas Village will be set up, providing various stalls selling food, beverages, and presents. According to town centre manager Connor Burgher, the event, traditionally hosted at the Weighbridge each year, is described as one “not to be missed.” He stated: “We are excited to be holding the Christmas light switch on event in a completely new location this year. “This will allow us to provide an even bigger and better show than ever before. “We hope you will join us in marking the official start of Christmas in St Helier.” The illumination of the Christmas lights is scheduled for 20:00 GMT, accompanied by a brief firework display.
