Jersey Athletes to Receive Travel Expense Support from New £300,000 Fund

Jersey athletes selected to represent their island internationally will be eligible to claim up to £1,000 for travel expenses starting in 2025. This follows the States’ approval on Thursday of a proposal by Deputy Raluka Kovacs to establish a £300,000 fund. Deputy Kovacs had initially advocated for a £500,000 fund but accepted a revised amount proposed by ministers. Deputy Kovacs stated: “We are very quick to celebrate when these hard working individuals bring medals for Jersey but often overlook their sacrifice and the support they need to get there.” She further commented: “Many talented individuals are left feeling that their hard work and sacrifices may be in vain if the financial barriers prevent them from crossing the water to showcase their skills.”
