Jeremy Clarkson, known as the former presenter of Top Gear, has filed an application to expand his pub, The Farmer’s Dog, located in Asthall, a village close to Burford in Oxfordshire. The establishment commenced operations for the public in August. Documents submitted to the West Oxfordshire District Council indicate that Clarkson’s team intends to construct a “modest” addition at the back of the premises. This proposed development aims to offer “improved” toilet facilities and “more efficient” cellar storage. The planning documents further state that the extension would replace an “unsightly” temporary outdoor storage area and guarantee the availability of accessible toilets at the pub. The West Oxfordshire District Council is currently reviewing the application. Clarkson has previously experienced a challenging relationship with his local authority, a situation that has been featured on his Amazon Prime farming program. For instance, in 2022, the council mandated the closure of a restaurant that the former Grand Tour presenter had established on his Diddly Squat farm. Earlier this year, on the pub’s opening day, hundreds of individuals waited for hours to be among its initial patrons. The tent, which served as a filming location for The Grand Tour—Clarkson’s Amazon Prime driving series co-presented with Richard Hammond and James May—has been permanently situated in the pub’s garden. Within this tent are The Farmer’s Puppy, described as a smaller counterpart to the main pub, a butcher’s shop, and a second version of the Diddly Squat Farm Shop.
