Jake Lloyd, a forward for Cornwall, has committed to the League One team for a fourth season by signing a new contract. Lloyd was among the initial players to join Cornwall when the club was established before the 2022 season, and as a former Lancashire and Great Britain amateur player, he has been with the Choughs since their inaugural season in 2022, making him one of their most seasoned players. His commitment follows Ken Stone’s takeover last month, making him the latest squad member to sign for 2025, alongside David Weetman, Adam Rusling, and head coach Mike Abbott. Lloyd expressed his sentiments to the club website, stating, “Cornwall has become my home over the last four years, and this club holds a special place in my heart. I’ve been here since the beginning, and seeing the journey we’ve been on together has been incredible. My motivation comes from wanting to continue contributing to the growth of rugby league in this region and to repay the support of the amazing fans who’ve backed us every step of the way.” Head coach Mike Abbott also commented on Lloyd’s contribution, saying: “Lloydy doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He just gets on with it without complaint playing wherever we’ve needed him and doing whatever for the cause. He puts his body in places he shouldn’t and probably shortens his life expectancy as a result, but does whatever is needed for the team. Jake leads by example and I’m so glad he’s with us for this year.”
