A cafe has announced its intention to rename a breakfast item to commemorate teenage darts star Luke Littler, following his visit to the establishment for breakfast. The 17-year-old had breakfast at Truffles in Ironbridge, Shropshire, on Saturday morning. The subsequent day, he secured victory in the Grand Slam of Darts, defeating Martin Lukeman 16-3 in Wolverhampton. Jenny Barratt, the owner, suggested to BBC Radio Shropshire that the meal might have contributed to his subsequent success. Staff members were reportedly surprised when the young athlete, known for his preference for takeaway, chose not to order a full breakfast. Instead, he requested beans on toast with scrambled egg, a combination that is now being considered for renaming as “The Luke Littler.” Ms. Barratt stated: “Nobody recognised him until one of our staff members who works in the kitchen came out and said, ‘Luke Littler’s just come in!'”. The cafe’s proprietor further elaborated that this moment prompted the Truffles WhatsApp group chat to become highly active. Littler is currently experiencing a rapid ascent in his career, having earned £900,000 in prize money during 2024, which marks his inaugural professional year. Ms. Barratt mentioned that he arrived accompanied by “beefy” security guards, but she characterized him as a “nice guy” who was “down to earth.” “Some of our staff members were able to get a couple of photos,” she commented. “He wanted no trouble at all. We kept it off Facebook for a bit so he was able to just have his breakfast in peace.” She added, “[We’re] quite honoured, really, because there’s a few cafes up and down here [and] they chose us.” Follow BBC Shropshire on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X and Instagram.
