Harry McNulty, the 31-year-old captain of the Ireland men’s sevens team, has declared his retirement from the sport of rugby. He captained Ireland at the Paris Olympics this year and accumulated more than 140 appearances since his initial debut in 2015. Additionally, McNulty played for Ireland at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and was a member of the Irish squad that secured a bronze medal at the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens, held in Cape Town. “Little did I know in 2015 when my mom signed me up to an open day for the 7s program, it would all turn out like this,” said McNulty. “From Bosnia to Paris, it’s been a pretty wild ride and one that I will cherish forever.”He added: “I’ve travelled the world and have made friends in every corner of the planet.” “Core status qualification, 2x World Cups, 2x Olympics, captaincy and memories last lifetime. What a ride!”For now the boots may hang but the door remains open and I’m excited for what the future holds. It’s the right time to put my energy into the next stage of my life.”
