Authorities have initiated an investigation following the death of an employee at a recycling center in Fife. The 66-year-old worker was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining injuries at the Dunfermline Recycling Centre at approximately 16:30 on Wednesday. The man was employed by Cireco, the company that operates waste facilities on behalf of Fife Council. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is collaborating with Police Scotland in their ongoing investigation into the incident. The recycling centre, located in Lochhead, remained closed to the public on Thursday. Emergency crews had been summoned to the site following initial reports of a man sustaining injuries. Robin Baird, Cireco’s chief executive, described the event as a “tragic situation,” and confirmed that support had been extended to colleagues. He further stated: “We are supporting the Police and the HSE with their investigations and will not be able to comment further on the incident until those investigations have concluded.“This is a tragic situation. The thoughts of everyone at Cireco are with the family, friends and loved ones of our colleague at this very difficult time.” A spokeswoman for Fife Council confirmed that their staff were also providing support to Police and the HSE. A Police Scotland spokesperson stated that inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
