An inquiry has commenced after graffiti displaying offensive Nazi symbols appeared on the exterior of buildings in Staffordshire. Swastikas were marked on the side of a corner shop in the Horninglow area of Burton-on-Trent, and several nearby residences were also vandalized. The incident occurred at approximately 16:00 GMT on November 23, according to police, who are requesting information from the public. Surveillance camera footage shows a man, wearing a hood, spraying paint onto the wall of a shop located at the junction of Balfour Street and Horninglow Street. The reason why the shop and house on Balfour Street were targeted was not immediately apparent. “Burton is a multi-cultural town, we live in peace together,” Paul Walker, the East Staffordshire borough councillor for the area, informed BBC Midlands Today. He further commented, “It’s quite a harmonious town.” Walker added, “For something like this to be appearing on shop fronts and businesses, it’s quite sinister to be honest.” None of the occupants of the affected properties wished to discuss the event with the BBC. However, one individual did state that he and his children had been left “scared” by the attacks. The vandalism took place near a primary school. The borough council has announced its intention to meet with local organizations to determine what assistance and reassurance can be offered, recognizing the unsettling impact on local families. “We’re here to reassure those families that we’re here to help if required – and for them to reach out to us if they need us,” Mr Walker affirmed. A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police confirmed that the force is investigating after swastikas were painted on a newsagent’s shop and a vacant house. Anyone possessing information, or CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage, was urged to contact the force.
