Inquiry Initiated Following Promenade Section Collapse

An inquiry has been launched following the collapse of a section of a promenade. A portion of the deck in Seaham, County Durham, gave way during Wednesday night, leading to the partial closure of the footpath. Durham County Council announced it had closed the southern segment of the path, specifically from the steps descending from North Road to Featherbed Rocks, stating this action was taken “in the interests of public safety.” The council also indicated it is examining the reason for the collapse and confirmed that repairs would be conducted “as soon as possible.” A spokesperson for the council stated: “The rest of the promenade remains open but we apologise for any inconvenience caused by the partial closure.”
