Formal investigations have commenced regarding the fatalities of a family involved in a “wrong way” collision on the M6 motorway. The incident, which occurred near Tebay in Cumbria on October 15, resulted in the deaths of five individuals and left one boy in critical condition. Jaroslaw Rossa, a 42-year-old resident of Glasgow, perished in the accident, alongside his two sons, Filip, 15, and Dominic, 7, and his 33-year-old partner, Jade McEnroe. Proceedings at Cockermouth Coroner’s Court revealed that Mr. Rossa and Dominic sustained complex injuries leading to their deaths, whereas the specific causes of death for Filip and Ms. McEnroe are presently undetermined. All four individuals were confirmed deceased at the site of the crash. Margaret Taylor, the Assistant Coroner for Cumbria, initiated these inquiries and presented a concise overview of the circumstances surrounding the collision. She stated that preliminary information indicated Mr. Rossa was operating a vehicle on the M6 northbound when it was struck head-on by another car, resulting in a vehicle fire. During the opening of Ms. McEnroe’s inquest, Ms. Taylor remarked: “She was the partner of Jaroslaw and had been travelling in the same vehicle as her partner and his children when the collision occurred.” Ms. McEnroe’s parents, also Glasgow residents, conveyed that she was “so loved” and would be missed daily. They further stated: “You are a very much loved mummy to Arran.” Ms. Taylor expressed her hope that a comprehensive inquest could commence on April 3, but cautioned that “much is dependent upon the state of our inquiries and whether or not they have been completed.” Richard John Woods, a flight instructor residing in Cambridgeshire, was also among those who died in the collision. A formal inquest into his passing was initiated last month. For updates, follow BBC Cumbria on X, Facebook, Nextdoor, and Instagram. Story ideas can be submitted to northeastandcumbria@bbc.co.uk.
