Law enforcement authorities are requesting public assistance in locating an inmate who escaped from an open correctional facility on Saturday. Steven Stewart, 39 years old, is currently serving a sentence for wounding with intent at HMP Leyhill, which is situated near Wotton-under-Edge in South Gloucestershire. Avon and Somerset Police reported that he was last observed wearing a black baseball cap, a dark-colored jumper, jogging bottoms, and white trainers. He is known to have connections in Eastbourne and Brighton. A police spokesperson advised that anyone who spots him should contact 999 immediately, adding: “Please don’t approach him.” Stewart is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, and of medium build. He has short dark hair, with names tattooed on his left arm and the word “England” on his right arm. He also has tattoos on his hand.
