Police have reported the discovery of an infant’s body in a field. The remains were located around 12:30 GMT by a woman walking her dog in the vicinity of Ashtons Field, situated in the Little Hulton area of Salford. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) stated that detectives, in collaboration with other agencies, are endeavoring to ascertain the identity of the infant, referred to as “Baby A,” along with the circumstances and timing of its death. The police force confirmed that a post-mortem examination is scheduled within the next two days. It also indicated that it is currently premature to determine Baby A’s gender, ethnicity, or age, or the duration the infant’s body had been present in the field, which lies near a bridge spanning the M61. Ch Supt Neil Blackwood, GMP’s district commander for Salford, commented: “At this stage we are following several lines of inquiry and we are working with local partner agencies.” He added: “We know this news will devastate our communities and while we do not have all the answers yet… I want to reassure residents we will do all we can to find out what has happened.” The chief superintendent appealed to anyone possessing information to step forward. “The most important thing for us right now is to find answers for this baby,” he stated, emphasizing, “Even the most minor of detail could be crucial to our investigation.” He further requested: “If you have seen anyone in the area over the last few days, or know who the parents could be, please call as soon as you can.” Blackwood concluded: “As soon as we are in the position to confirm further details about the circumstances, we will do so.”
