Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service responded to an industrial fire on Christow Road in Exeter’s Marsh Barton area around 20:35 GMT on Thursday evening. Local residents were advised to keep their windows and doors shut because of the significant blaze. The service also asked the public to “stay away from the area” and indicated that the fire’s origin was thought to be accidental. Firefighters employed water jets to “bring a large pile of scrap metal, that is well alight, under control,” with the fire completely extinguished by 06:00 on Friday. Fire service personnel returned to the site on Friday morning to conduct an inspection, reiterating that the cause of the fire was believed to be accidental.
