An explosion at a residential property has resulted in serious injuries to one individual. Emergency services received notifications of a blast at a block of flats situated on Chase Road, Burntwood, Staffordshire, shortly after 21:00 GMT on Monday. The injured man, identified as being in his 20s, sustained severe burns, according to the Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service. He was transported to a medical facility via ambulance in a critical state; however, authorities confirmed that no other individuals were harmed. A total of five additional residential units were evacuated following the incident. The origin of the explosion remains under investigation, and Staffordshire Police are requesting that anyone with relevant information come forward. A spokesperson for the fire service stated, “Multiple crews attended the scene and located a two-storey flat that had been damaged by an internal explosion.” Gas and electrical engineers were also present at the site, the spokesperson confirmed. A representative from the West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that the man was transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for ongoing medical care.
