An individual faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving following a fatal incident where a woman was struck while crossing a road. Safia Karieem, aged 51, passed away on Manchester Road, Nelson, Lancashire, approximately at 20:30 GMT on 15 December. Her family characterized her as “a beacon of light and kindness to those who knew her” and stated that her “absence was keenly felt by those whose lives she touched”. Abubakar Mahmood, 19, residing at Farrer Street, Nelson, also received a charge for driving whilst disqualified. He has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at Burnley Crown Court on 20 January. Three men, all aged 19, along with a 20-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy, were detained on suspicion of dangerous driving. Additionally, a 30-year-old man was apprehended on suspicion of assisting an offender. All individuals have subsequently been released on bail. Law enforcement officials are still requesting any information or dashcam footage pertaining to the blue VW Golf on Manchester Road, or its movement towards the Pennine Crescent area.
