An individual aged 61 has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder, subsequent to the passing of a man who sustained severe injuries during an assault over ten years prior. Stuart Coldicott, at the age of 36, sustained head injuries that were life-threatening in Colchester on February 11, 2014. This year, in March, a homicide inquiry was initiated following the demise of Mr Caldicott, who had been rendered paralysed and needed a “high level of complex daily care.” Essex Police announced on Monday that fresh investigative leads resulted in the apprehension of a 61-year-old male within Colchester. Detective Inspector Lydia George, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, stated: “The injuries Stuart sustained had a significant and long-lasting impact on him and of course his family, who continue to live with that impact to this day.“When Stuart died and a causal link to the head injury was established, we began treating his death as a homicide and our fresh investigation was launched.“And as part of that investigation, we have arrested a man on suspicion of murder, and he remains in custody to be questioned.” The initial police inquiry, conducted in 2014, concentrated on the areas of Barrack Street and Harsnett Road within Colchester. Surveillance camera footage underwent review, and a mobile police unit was established. A statement released by Mr Coldicott’s family honored him as a “dearly-loved brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, son and friend to everyone that knew him.” The family’s statement further conveyed: “Stewie sustained a serious head injury, which resulted in him become a paraplegic. “Although this horrific incident happened to him, he never lost his naughty sense of humour that put a smile on everyone’s faces.”Nobody could replace him, and he will always remain in our hearts.“All the family members and friends will greatly miss Stewie very much and our mischievous family member is gone from this world but not from our hearts.” For updates on Essex news, refer to BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
