An individual has been taken into custody on suspicion of raping a woman at London’s Groucho Club. The Metropolitan Police stated that the alleged rape occurred inside the private members’ club, situated on Dean Street in Soho, on November 13. The 34-year-old man, who is from Hertfordshire, was arrested on Saturday and remains in police custody, the force confirmed. Last month, Westminster City Council temporarily closed the well-known celebrity establishment after claims emerged that a “recent serious criminal offence” had taken place on the premises. The council announced it had suspended the Soho venue’s licence for a duration of up to 28 days, following a request from the Metropolitan Police. A comprehensive hearing to deliberate on the licence is scheduled to occur. The police force clarified that, at this stage, there is no indication that employees of the venue were involved in the offence. The woman is receiving support from specialist officers. The Groucho Club, which opened in 1985, was established as a more relaxed alternative to traditional gentlemen’s clubs and has a long-standing association with A-list celebrities.
