An individual has been taken into custody following a report from Derby City Council concerning “threats” directed at an employee via telephone. In response to these “malicious communications” on Monday, the council implemented visitor restrictions at its main offices, operating solely by appointment. Derbyshire Police confirmed that a 32-year-old man was apprehended on Tuesday night, suspected of transmitting an offensive, obscene, or menacing message through a public communication network. The council announced that its Council House reception resumed normal operations at 11:00 GMT on Wednesday, with the requirement for appointments being removed “with immediate effect”. A statement from the council indicated: “While some ground floor services, such as the Riverside Library, will be open as usual, the Derby City Jobcentre Plus will remain closed today.” Police stated that the individual who was arrested is still in custody.
