Prohibited pyrotechnics and rockets were confiscated following a property raid prompted by allegations of fireworks being sold to minors. Additionally, the residence located in Byker Wall, Newcastle, contained over 200 packs of suspected illicit cigarettes and 100 vapes that did not meet compliance standards. According to the city council, the operation was initiated after receiving reports of an individual operating a van in the Walker area, reportedly selling fireworks to children. Subsequently, officers located a Facebook page advertising the delivery of pyrotechnics within the city’s east end, which enabled them to pinpoint the house that was subjected to the raid. Chief Inspector David Wheeler of Northumbria Police stated: “You may not realise it, but purchasing illegal fireworks often funds much more serious criminality, such as drug-dealing and organised crime.” Paul Russell, who serves as the area manager for community safety at Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, encouraged the public to attend officially organized firework displays. He further commented: “Buying fireworks from unlicensed sellers can lead to serious, preventable accidents.” These items frequently do not adhere to crucial safety standards, presenting dangers such as burns, blindness, and other injuries that can permanently alter one’s life.
