The gas supply in Ilkley has been completely reinstated following a day-long disruption that left approximately 750 customers without service for several hours due to a pressurisation issue. Northern Gas Networks (NGN) confirmed that the problem, which affected residents on Friday, was resolved by approximately 18:00 GMT. Numerous households were left without heating as a result of the outage, and Bradford Council reported that Ben Rhydding Primary School was required to close for the day because of the situation. Chris Green, NGN’s business operations manager, stated: “This afternoon, we repressurised the local network to restore normal gas pressure to the area, so customers will now be able to use their gas supply as normal.” Mr. Green further explained that approximately 750 customers in the LS29 8 and LS29 9 postal code areas of Ilkley had reported insufficient gas pressure on Friday morning. He noted that an NGN team was “quickly on site to investigate the issue”. He also mentioned: “Our customer care team has been door-knocking the area throughout today, to visit vulnerable customers and Priority Services Registered customers, and make sure their gas is working as normal.” Individuals who had previously received instructions to shut off their gas supply at the emergency control valve were now able to reactivate their service, as per Mr. Green. Mr. Green concluded by saying: “Customers who need additional help can call our team on 0800 040 7766, option 4, and we can send an engineer to support them.” NGN additionally established a customer support center at the Craiglands Hotel on Cowpasture Road, providing heaters and hot plates for collection. A spokesperson advised that any personnel visiting affected residences would possess appropriate identification, and residents should verify credentials before allowing individuals into their homes. A mock GCSE examination scheduled for Friday morning at Ilkley Grammar School was canceled because the sports hall lacked heating as a result of the gas supply problem. Year 11 students were informed that the assessment would be rescheduled.
