Police have formally identified a woman who died in the Solway estuary after making a phone call to report being trapped in mud. The body of Shona Campbell, aged 74, was discovered near Cummertrees in Dumfries and Galloway on Tuesday afternoon. Authorities stated that while her death is being treated as unexplained, it is not believed to be suspicious. In a brief statement, they added that “a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal.” It is understood that Ms. Campbell, who was staying at a local caravan park, placed the call to report her difficulties around 5:00 PM on Monday. This initiated a significant search operation involving several specialist teams. Her body was located the following afternoon, Tuesday. Media reports from the Isle of Man indicate that Ms. Campbell had been living there. The Solway estuary is known for its hazardous mudflats, with many areas susceptible to quicksand. The waters off the south of Scotland coast are considered dangerous due to experiencing some of Europe’s fastest tidal movements.
