A sports club is poised to enhance its community amenities following the authorization for a new artificial playing surface. The Hunslet Club, located in Leeds, plans to install a 3G all-weather pitch, complete with floodlighting and fencing, subsequent to the council’s endorsement of the proposal. This artificial playing field is slated to supersede two current grass pitches at the Hillidge Road club, which operates as a not-for-profit youth organisation serving over 3,400 members. According to a planning report reviewed by Leeds councillors, 3G football pitches are capable of accommodating 80 hours of play weekly, in contrast to approximately six hours for natural grass pitches. The report indicated: “The proposal will provide very significant social benefits for the recreational value of the green space by offering the opportunity for increased pitch use.” Leeds City Council received a dozen letters endorsing the planning application from individuals who supported the facility upgrade. The report mentioned that a single letter of objection was submitted, citing environmental concerns. The individual raising the objection contended that the material utilized in 3G pitches is not recyclable and that the floodlights could potentially cause light pollution. However, council planners expressed confidence that the project would not adversely affect the adjacent vicinity, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service. The planning report noted: “These benefits have received praise from representation letters in support.” The club, established in 1940 and an official partner of Leeds United, stated that the forthcoming pitch would contribute to the advancement of women’s and girls’ football. A design report affirmed: “The synthetic pitch will help to raise the standard of play and training opportunities within the local area, as well as hopefully enhancing individuals’ enjoyment of sport.” Post navigation Celtic Reclaims Top Spot with 3-0 Victory Over Motherwell Premier League Survival Prospects: The Impact of Being Winless After 10 Games
