Home favourite Ugo Humbert secured his place in the Paris Masters final against Germany’s Alexander Zverev, having rallied from a deficit in his semi-final. Zverev has won one ATP title this year, while Humbert has claimed two. Both players defeated former Paris champions on Saturday to reach their fourth ATP final of the current season. World number three Zverev previously lost the French Open final to Carlos Alcaraz in June. The French number one, Humbert, triumphed over Karen Khachanov with a score of 6-7 (6-8) 6-4 6-3. This followed Zverev’s commanding performance, where he overcame world number 13 Holger Rune 6-3 7-6 (7-4). In the opening set of his match, world number 18 Humbert conceded his serve twice but immediately broke back on both occasions. However, Russia’s Khachanov ultimately won the set in a tie-break. Khachanov, ranked world number 21, created a single break point opportunity in the second set but failed to convert it. Humbert then took control, improving his first serve and employing powerful groundstrokes, hitting 13 winners to level the match. The 26-year-old maintained this aggressive strategy into the deciding set, demonstrating even greater dominance by securing two breaks to clinch the victory. Earlier, Zverev established an early 3-1 lead against Rune by applying consistent pressure from the baseline, which led to a break. The German then had to exert considerable effort in the fifth game before consolidating his lead with a couple of powerful serves. The 27-year-old Roland Garros runner-up overcame a late double fault to conclude the opening set, propelled by 11 winners, in front of a full house at the Palais Omnisports in Bercy. The second set proved to be more competitive as Rune increased his aggression, occasionally employing serve-and-volley tactics. However, Zverev asserted control in the tie-break, quickly taking a 3-0 lead and maintaining his composure to secure his career-high 65th win of the season.
