A mural commemorating Hull’s association with Hollywood has been revealed within the city. This artwork, situated at Paragon Interchange, depicts locations and characters from several films filmed across different sections of the city centre, such as Enola Holmes and The Personal History of David Copperfield. Its unveiling coincided with the initial public screening of Oscar-winner Steve McQueen’s newest World War Two film, Blitz, a production partially filmed in the Old Town district. Andy Pea, the artist responsible for the mural, characterized his creation as “a great beacon” intended to welcome visitors to the locality and commend the region’s global cinematic ties. He commented that the process of creating the mural was “great fun” and expressed his hope that it would encourage individuals to investigate further films produced in the area. Councillor Rob Pritchard, who holds the portfolio for culture and leisure at Hull City Council, stated: “Hull’s links to Hollywood grow each year and with over 4,000 trail leaflets distributed since its launch in the spring, it’s clear there is a real appetite for it with residents and visitors.” Concurrently, an augmented reality application designed to guide visitors through the city’s film and television locations has also been introduced. Mr Pritchard commented: “The AR version will really bring this trail to life and I can see it proving very popular. “He added that TransPennine Express’ new mural captures the spirit of Hullywood, as well as our talented bank of performers, perfectly and will make a fantastic addition to the station.” Ben Courtney, the station manager for TransPennine Express, remarked: “It was incredible for Hull station to be a part of the Hullywood experience – and to see it transform into times gone by.”
