Complimentary activities are being made available for children and young people in Hull throughout the Christmas period. These Healthy Holidays sessions cater to individuals aged five to 16 and have been established by Hull City Council (HCC) with the objective of assisting families facing financial difficulties due to the cost of living. The activities provided include swimming, cooking classes, family-oriented fun sessions, and warm zones that offer families a hot meal and games. Councillor Linda Tock, who holds the portfolio for children’s services at HCC, stated that the program was developed to “ensure children and young people do not go hungry when schools are closed”. Tock commented: “While we are very happy to offer Healthy Holidays, and it provides a huge amount of fun, it is vital to recognise that it exists to address serious structural problems which can only be solved at a national level. More recently, the addition of warm zones is a response to the continued cost of living crisis, which means many families are struggling to afford the essentials of food and heat. This is an unacceptable situation for people to find themselves in.” Reservations for these activities can be made through the Healthy Holidays website.
