Former Scotland back Hugo Southwell has stated that Gregor Townsend’s choice to name Sione Tuipulotu as captain for the Autumn Nations Series was a “masterstroke,” citing the centre’s capability to lead from the front. Tuipulotu sustained his top-class form throughout the autumn, assisting the Scots in securing three wins out of their four Tests and thriving under the additional responsibility of captaincy. Southwell drew a comparison between the Glasgow Warriors player and his former teammate, Jason White, characterizing both as individuals “everyone would follow.” Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland, Southwell remarked, “It’s been a master-stroke,” and elaborated on Tuipulotu’s approach to leadership. “He relishes that opportunity. Some people, when they’re captain, the added pressure doesn’t bode well for them. But for him, it just lifts his game.” Southwell continued, “He’s a guy who makes people follow him. I had a guy, Jason White, when we were playing. He said so many words but actually it was just leading from the front and he was playing to the top of his ability every single week, and everyone would follow him. “That’s exactly what Sione’s doing at the moment and long may it continue.” Post navigation Brentwood Town Manager Eager for Southend United FA Trophy Derby Rangers’ Kasanwirjo Faces Extended Absence Following Knee Surgery
