East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) responded to a fire at a restaurant situated beneath residential flats in Hove. Firefighters were dispatched to the incident on Portland Road at 13:45 BST on Saturday, concluding their operations and departing the scene at 16:21. A spokesperson for the fire service informed the BBC that smoke from a kitchen fire in the ground-floor restaurant impacted the properties located above it. The service confirmed that all individuals within the building were accounted for. ESFRS reported that occupants evacuated the affected premises after fire alarms were activated. Six fire appliances were present at the peak of the incident, with assistance provided by West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. ESFRS stated that crews utilized four breathing apparatuses, two high-pressure hose reels, one main jet, and one covering jet to extinguish the fire. ESFRS confirmed, “As per standard practice, crews revisited the scene of the fire later that evening to check for any issues, confirming there were no hotspots.” The full extent of the damage will be determined following a comprehensive fire investigation, the service added.
