A proposal for residential construction near a village has received approval, notwithstanding over 200 objections from local inhabitants. West Northamptonshire Council sanctioned the construction of 19 residences, including seven affordable homes, slated for Barby Road, located on the western periphery of Kilsby, close to Rugby. Committee members convened on Thursday to deliberate on the application, hearing presentations from the applicants as well as objections submitted by local residents, Kilsby Parish Council, and representatives from Kilsby Action Group. Kilsby Parish Council expressed opposition to the plans, asserting that the development on green space could jeopardize the “character, beauty and tranquility” of the village. The objections were supported by 234 letters from members of the public who argued against the development. One objector wrote: “Please don’t wreck our village, we moved here for peace.” Kilsby Action Group stated that the proposed housing would be situated beyond the village’s existing boundaries, resulting in an “incongruous isolated incursion” into the open countryside. Their additional concerns included the suggested access route, which they deemed hazardous, and the scarcity of amenities within the village, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service. The applicant, Richborough Estates, reduced the scale of the development after initially submitting plans in 2021 for 44 homes on a larger plot. The developer commented: “The Barby Road site represents an exciting opportunity to provide a new residential community which is both considered and responsive to the local character.” Northamptonshire news is accessible on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
