The Queen’s Centre for Oncology and Haematology, located at Castle Hill Hospital near Cottingham, is set to host a complimentary event for individuals who have received a cancer diagnosis. This gathering will take place on November 12 and will cover various topics, including benefits guidance, make-up techniques, and insights into how horses can provide assistance following a diagnosis. The event is designed for anyone currently undergoing cancer treatment or those previously diagnosed, offering an opportunity to engage with experts. Claire Walker, the Macmillan Information Health and Wellbeing manager, noted that cancer can have a “big impact on families and loved ones” in addition to the person directly affected. She elaborated, “Whether it’s questions about how you’ll pay the household bills, how to manage your physical appearance or concerns over how your diagnosis may be affecting your children, or if you’re a cancer survivor looking to meet and share experiences with others, we’ll have someone on hand to help.” Among the specialists available to offer advice on the day will be those providing carers advice, the Look Good Feel Better program for addressing the physical effects of cancer treatment, the Oral Health Team, and Alzheimer’s Society Support. A confidential space will also be accessible for private conversations if needed. Attendance at the event is free, and individuals interested in participating can attend between 10:00 and 15:00 GMT.
