A striking Remembrance display, comprising over 7,200 knitted or crocheted poppies, has been created for a village church. On Friday, a flow of red poppies was affixed to the exterior of St Katherine’s Church in Holt, a location situated near Trowbridge, Wiltshire. Over 200 village residents volunteered to craft the poppies, with participants ranging in age from pre-school children to individuals aged 96. This poppy cascade is scheduled to remain on view until November 18th and will be illuminated after dark. Additionally, smaller poppy arrangements are featured in various other locations throughout the village. Local organizations such as the Brownies, Guides, a youth group, and the school participated in the effort. Within one month of the call for volunteers, 100 individuals had offered their assistance. The display extends beyond the church, with poppies distributed across Holt, visible outside the local pub, and adorning benches, bollards, and post boxes. To support the Royal British Legion (RBL), brooches and clips have been produced. Furthermore, a concert scheduled for Sunday in the village has completely sold out. Funds generated from the concert will be donated to both the RBL and Help for Heroes.
