The council has announced that a week of road closures, aimed at “reconstruct[ing]” a major thoroughfare in Hull, is set to commence on Monday. Hull City Council specified that this “essential work” on Holderness Road, spanning the section from Mount Pleasant to Burleigh Street, will be executed in two distinct phases. Phase one involves the closure of outbound lanes, continuing until November 30. Subsequently, phase two will entail a full outbound road closure on December 1 and 2. Councillor Mark Ieronimo, who holds the portfolio for transportation, roads, and highways, stated that the project is intended to “help keep the road safe and reliable” and simultaneously “futureproof[]” the city’s overall road infrastructure. He further added, “I would also like to apologise in advance for any disruptions these works may cause, particularly to businesses and residents of Holderness Road.” Residents and businesses will retain access, and pedestrian footpaths will remain accessible. Furthermore, waste collection services are expected to proceed without alteration. Drivers will be directed along a clearly marked diversion route, utilizing Mount Pleasant, Old Hedon Road, Southcoates, and Holderness Road.
