A new legal request has been submitted for the immediate dismantling of a six-storey town centre building that remains under construction. This structure, located in Job’s Yard, Kettering, Northamptonshire, was previously subject to a demolition order issued last year, following a three-day trial conducted at Birmingham High Court. The council reported that Michigan Construction Limited (MCL), the developer, was instructed to take down the building by spring 2024, but no progress has been observed since. The Local Democracy Reporting Service indicated that MCL had not responded to a request for comment. North Northamptonshire Council (NNC) alleged that MCL denied council officers and agents access to the premises for the purpose of conducting a pre-demolition inspection. A safety cordon has been established around the building since June 2022 to safeguard the public, and NNC stated it would remain in place until the demolition is finalized. The council communicated that the latest high court application aims to proceed with the demolition without hindrance from the site owner; however, the council has not provided an anticipated timeline for when a hearing might occur. NNC had previously stated that the demolition process could extend up to 12 weeks, once initial assessments have been completed.
