A collective of 150 yarn bombers has described its newest creation as its most “magical, breathtaking and magnificent” exhibit to date. The Secret Society of Hertford Crafters presented its recent project, inspired by the Cinderella fairy tale, in the town center. Over several months, the group constructed Prince Charming’s castle, featuring 2,000 knitted bricks, a drawbridge, towers, 22 distinct scenes, 42 dancers, and two “scoundrels” identified as Liam and Noel. Melanie Delaney, a member of the group, stated that they had “never done anything like this before,” emphasizing its purpose of bringing joy to the community and generating funds for the Hertfordshire Breast Unit Appeal. Ms. Delaney mentioned that since 2017, the group has produced various displays, such as Olympic, Remembrance, and Coronation themes, noting that each one becomes “bigger and better every time.” She added that for the past week, the group had been “teasing” the town by placing several clues when the town’s tree was put up on November 13. “We’ve placed bells out of recycled bottles, clocks, mice crawling up the tree and invitations.” Ms. Delaney indicated that the primary display was revealed on Wednesday, showcasing an “entire castle ballroom scene surrounding the tree, with dancers at the ball.” This theme was selected to coincide with the Cinderella pantomime currently being staged at the town’s recently reopened BEAM theatre. “It’s a site to behold – we’ve knitted 2,000 bricks, complete with 22 vignettes, with 42 dancers, all individually made, with one couple celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary.” “It’s the biggest ballroom scene. We’ve never done anything like this.” “People love seeing our creations. It brings joys and raises community spirit and funds.” “This display is the most magical and magnificent one we’ve done so far, it’s breathtaking.” News updates for Beds, Herts, and Bucks are available on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
