Herring gulls have caused disruptions for construction workers by traversing wet concrete laid as part of a regeneration project in Norfolk. Foundation slabs are currently being installed in the market place in Great Yarmouth, preceding the placement of new paving stones on the ground. However, workers informed the BBC that gulls have left footprints in each of the three concrete pours, requiring each instance to be re-skimmed before the material could set. Carl Smith, leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council, stated that this incident represented the most recent and least significant challenge encountered by the £11m project. Mr. Smith further commented: “We’ve had Dancing on Ice, now we’ve got seagulls dancing on concrete. Maybe the BBC should do a new programme – rather than Strictly Come Dancing, maybe Seagulls Come Dancing. “I know it’s Christmas but it is taking the season of goodwill a bit far. “They’re going to have to get a bird scarer on there because it’s causing a bit of a hold up because they’ve got to scare them off and reskim it again.”We’ve had problems with cables being in the wrong place, sewers that needed to be moved but to have seagulls dancing on concrete really is the icing on the cake.” Information regarding Norfolk news is available on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
